Every March 24th, our country commemorates the Day of Action for Tolerance and Respect Among Peoples. This commemoration arose after Argentina recognized the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in 1915 by the Ottoman Empire against the Armenian population, a tragic event that ushered in the bloody 20th century and resulted in the deaths of 1,500,000 Armenians. Even today, the current Turkish state refuses to acknowledge its sole responsibility for that massacre. However, beyond the Turks' attempt to exterminate the Armenian people, the survivors and exiles of that tragedy forged one of the most remarkable diasporas. Despite their dispersal across different geographical areas, they managed to maintain the unity of their people and create one of the most significant acts of remembrance in modern history.
